Microsoft is running a great preview program for Windows 10. It is allowing members of the public to try out the new software on desktop as well as their mobile devices before Windows 10’s consumer release this summer. Windows 10 for Phones preview went live a few weeks ago for select devices. The company has confirmed that it is now expanding the preview to even more smartphones.

The company explained that initially the preview was limited to select devices because it had to choose from a set of smartphones that had sufficient system partition sizes configured by the manufacturer. The “partition stitching” feature that it was working on would allow resizing of the system partition dynamically so that the upgrade could be brought to more devices.

Microsoft confirms that the partition stitching feature has arrive into the main code branch and testing has already begun on individual devices. This testing will allow Microsoft to support “A LOT more phones” with the next preview build.

While the company won’t provide a release date for the next build yet it does mention that probably a week of work is required before a build that supports more devices is put together.

Microsoft has put up the list of devices that it plans on supporting in the next Windows 10 for Phones preview build. It does say that if a device specific bug is found that device may be pulled from the list.
