Xiaomi Said To Take On The Apple Watch With Its Own Smartwatch

Many people often refer to Xiaomi as the Apple of China. In less than half a decade it has become of the biggest smartphone vendors in China and is now aggressively pushing into neighbouring countries. Now that the Cupertino company is bringing the Apple Watch to market reports out of China suggest that Xiaomi may seek to challenge it with a smartwatch of its own.

Wearables are not a new front for Xiaomi. It has already dabbled in wearable devices like fitness trackers. These will actually be among the accessories that Xiaomi will sell through its portal in Europe and the U.S.

It will not be surprising to see Xiaomi come out with its smartwatch. It will also not surprise anyone if the wearable device is very competitively priced as all Xiaomi products are.

According to reports Xiaomi’s smartwatch is going to have a brushed metal design, the kind you might have seen on an HTC One M9, and that it will have a thin profile. Apparently the smartwatch will be round like the Moto 360 or LG G Watch R.

The reports don’t say if the device will have standalone Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G capability or if it will depend upon a smartphone for all of its data needs. Details about specifications are not yet available.

Xiaomi has not confirmed anything as yet so a possible release date or pricing is not known.
