Apple Has Sold 61.2 Million iPhones In The Last 3 Months

apple_logoIt is no secret that the iPhone is a popular device, and by launching the larger screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has finally given customers what they’ve been clamoring for all these years, a bigger display, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that the iPhone has been selling like hotcakes, even after half a year.

According to Apple’s latest earnings report, it has been revealed that for the past 3 months ending in March, the Cupertino company has managed to sell a whopping 61.2 million iPhones. This represents a 40% increase from the same period last year and has blown past the estimates offered by analysts which was pegged at 56.8 million units.

That being said it does represent a drop from the last quarter ending in December where Apple sold 74.5 million units which was also the best-selling period for iPhones ever, although we guess that’s to be expected as the excitement and hype has died down, plus the launch of newer handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S6 have probably managed to lure some potential customers away.

In a statement made by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, “We are thrilled by the continued strength of iPhone, Mac and the App Store, which drove our best March quarter results ever. We’re seeing a higher rate of people switching to iPhone than we’ve experienced in previous cycles, and we’re off to an exciting start to the June quarter with the launch of Apple Watch.”
