Comcast has already announced the launch of its 2Gbps broadband internet service which not only provides speeds that are double than that of Google Fiber, but also provides a symmetrical connection, which means uploads speeds will match download speeds. Comcast has now confirmed that it will be launching this service in California, northern California to be precise, soon.

Areas that will initially be covered include Chico, Fresno, Santa Barbara County, San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey, Stockton and others. The service will be available to homes that are in “close proximity” of Comcast’s fiber network. Installation of professional-grade equipment will be required before users can enjoy 2Gbps broadband internet.

That’s not all that Comcast is doing for customers in California. It also announced a new tier called Extreme 250 which California customers can subscribe to in order to get 250Mbps speed.

The company will also increase the Performance tier from 50Mbps to 75Mbps and the Blast tier from 105Mbps to 150Mbps. Customers will not have to pay extra for the increase, which will go into effect this May.

Comcast’s 2Gbps broadband service will start rolling out to customers in the aforementioned areas by June 2015. The company has moved into Google’s backyard but Google Fiber is yet to make an appearance in this market.
