We had been hearing about soak tests of this update for a couple of weeks now and finally the Android 5.1 for Moto X 2013 release is underway in certain markets. Motorola released this handset back in 2013 and it brought about a major shift for the company and since then Motorola has done a very good job of providing new software updates for this handset. Now it’s finally rolling out the much awaited Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the original Moto X.

Reports are coming in from several markets across the globe that unlocked retail units of the Moto X 2013 have started receiving the Android 5.1 update from Motorola particularly unlocked retail units in the United States and Brazil, as well as Rogers units in Canada.

Motorola’s David Schuster revealed on Google+ that the company has started full deployment of Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Moto X 2013, this release comes only a few days after the company released 5.1 for Moto X 2014 models. Motorola has certainly been quick to send out the Android 5.1 update for some of its devices.

Carrying build 222.21.15 this update is going to bump up the Moto X 2013 to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The official release notes from Motorola don’t state just how big this update it but connecting to a Wi-Fi network is a requirement before the update can be downloaded.
