AT&T’s Moto X Android 5.1 Update Rollout Halted

Last month it was revealed that the first-gen Moto X would be getting an update to Android 5.1. This is no doubt great news for a handset that’s about 2 years old now, and let’s not forget the last update the handset received was back in November when it was running on Android 4.4 KitKat, so safe to say the update to Android 5.1 is a big deal.

Unfortunately it seems that as far as AT&T owners of the Moto X are concerned, you guys might have to wait a bit longer. The carrier had initially begun the rollout of the update earlier this month, but all of a sudden they decided to put the brakes on the update’s rollout without saying why.

Many had assumed something was wrong with the update which is the only reason why a carrier would stop rollout halfway, and sure enough there was. It has recently been confirmed by Motorola’s David Schuster on Google+ that there was an issue with the update that could cause a person’s phone to lose their contacts and have issues syncing with AT&T’s Address Book app.

According to Schuster, only a small percentage of users have been affected by this so even if you have received the update and you’re not experiencing any problems, you should be fine. However they decided to go ahead and pull the update anyway just to be safe. No word on when the fixed update will be pushed out, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
