Windows 10 Has Its Own Version of Minecraft

Minecraft is already available on a wide variety of platforms and it almost seems like there aren’t any more mainstream platforms out there on which this game can be launched, Windows obviously has it but does creating a new version for a new iteration of Windows count? Probably, because Microsoft has seen it fit to introduce a separate version of Minecraft just for Windows 10.

Microsoft announced during the MineCon convention, which basically brings together Minecraft players and fans from all around the globe, that the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta is going to be released later this month.

In case you’re wondering why Microsoft is doing this you may not be aware that the company purchased Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, last year and has since expanded the game to its other platforms including HoloLens.

So what makes Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta different from the rest? It has additional optimizations and tweaks such as seamless switching between touchscreen, controller and keyboard and mouse controls, support for Minecraft Pocket Edition and Xbox Live online play as well as built-in GameDVR features with ability to record and share gameplay.

Those who already own the PC version of Minecraft will get the Windows 10 edition for free, everybody else will have to pay $10 and then future updates will be free.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta will be released on July 29th, the very same day that Microsoft starts rolling out Windows 10 to the public.
