Angry Birds 2 Sees 20 Million Downloads In Its First Week

angry birds 2 20mThe Angry Birds franchise is old and admittedly getting a little boring despite the various iterations that Rovio keeps putting out, which is why when Angry Birds 2 was announced, we were genuinely curious to see if the game still managed to command the same level of appeal it did a few years ago.

Turns out it does. According to a recent post by Rovio, they have officially announced that Angry Birds 2 has seen over 20 million downloads within its first week of release. The game has managed to top both iPhone and iPad charts in over 100 countries, and is the most downloaded game across iOS and Android devices around the world.

In a way we guess we saw this coming. In its first 12 hours the game saw over 1 million downloads, and that number hit 10 million in its first 3 days, so for Rovio to arrive at 20 million in a week is to be expected. We have to admit that we are now curious to see how high those numbers will go in the coming weeks and months.

According to the game’s Creative Director Patrick Liu, “When we were developing and testing Angry Birds 2, we had good reason to believe we were on to a good thing, but the enormous groundswell of enthusiasm for the game from loyal fans and casual newcomers alike has been humbling. It took the first Angry Birds game more than 9 months to reach this many players, and we thank all our fans  for growing the flock so quickly!”

if you haven’t downloaded the game already, you can do so by hitting up the iTunes App Store or Google Play for the free download.
