intel-6thgen-chipsIf you’re a hardcore gamer looking to build your next gaming rig, you might be interested to learn that Intel has recently taken the wraps off two new processors. These are Intel’s new 6th-gen Core i5 and i7 processors which according to the company, are targeted specifically at gamers.

The new chipsets were announced at Gamescom so we guess that really doesn’t come as much of a surprise. So what are we looking at here? Starting with the Core i5-6600K, this is a processor clocked at 3.5GHz, while the Core i7-6700K will be clocked at a speedier 4GHz, but both models are of the quad-core variety.

However Intel notes that due to the move to the new microarchitecture, there is a chance it might not be compatible with your existing motherboard. Instead chances are you will need to use a motherboard that has a free LGA1151 CPU socket if you’re looking for compatibility, but other than that you should be good to go.

In terms of pricing, the Core i5-6600K will be priced at $243 which we suppose is somewhat reasonable. However if you have extra money to spend and don’t mind a boost in clock speed, the Intel Core i7-6700K will retail for $350. Note that these are for desktop gamers but for those who prefer gaming on laptops, Intel has you covered as they are promising a 6th-gen “K” SKU for laptops that will be released later this year.
