At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Dell is introducing the Dell 14S, a new lightweight Windows laptop aimed at students, college users and anyone looking for an affordable everyday notebook without moving to the company’s more expensive XPS line.
The Dell 14S combines an aluminum chassis measuring 13.5mm thick and weighing 1.15kg (about 2.5 pounds) with four unusually colorful finishes: Linen, Dusty Rose, Washed Denim and Velvet Green. Dell is positioning the new model below the XPS 13, with an emphasis on portability, battery life and a more accessible price.
One of the headline features is battery life. Dell claims up to 21 hours of Netflix streaming on a charge, using a new high-energy-density 750ED PNCM battery. According to the company, the denser battery cells are designed to run cooler under load and retain capacity over time without increasing the laptop’s weight.
That 21-hour figure was measured by Dell using a configuration with an Intel Core 5 320 processor, integrated Intel Graphics, 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD, with the display set to 150 nits. As usual, real-world battery life will vary considerably depending on workload and configuration.
Two 16:10 Display Options
Dell will offer the 14S with two display configurations. Buyers can choose a 2.8K 120Hz panel for higher resolution and smoother motion, or a 2K 60Hz panel targeted at users who prioritize battery life and price.
Both use a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, providing more vertical working space than a traditional 16:9 screen, which can be particularly useful when working with documents, web pages and school assignments.
Performance comes from Intel Core 5 and Core 7 Series 3 processors. Dell has not provided the complete range of CPU, memory and storage configurations yet, but the company is positioning the system primarily for everyday multitasking rather than high-performance gaming or workstation workloads.
The laptop also includes an FHD 1080p webcam, dual far-field microphones and stereo speakers. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, two USB-C ports with Power Delivery, HDMI and a 3.5mm headphone jack, while Windows Hello provides biometric sign-in.
The Dell 14S is particularly interesting because Dell is bringing several characteristics normally associated with premium ultraportables—an aluminum body, a weight close to 1kg, high-resolution display options and long battery life—to a product specifically positioned around value.
The Dell 14S will launch in North America this fall, with pricing to be announced closer to availability. Dell says the laptop is intended to complement rather than replace the premium XPS 13 and is designed to eventually reach students and young adults globally.
