nextbitIf you’re scratching your head and wondering who Nextbit are, we can’t say we blame you. For those who are unfamiliar, Nextbit is a mobile developer who consists of employees who used to work at some of the largest tech companies at the moment, such Google, Apple, Amazon, and HTC, just to name a few.

The company has released several mobile apps and last we heard, they were working with the folks at Cyanogen on something “really cool”. That being said, it looks like the company is priming itself to get into the smartphone business, and the fruits of their labor is expected to make its debut on the 1st of September.

This is according to a recent interview execs at Nextbit had with CNET. While the details of the company’s smartphone remains a mystery for now, Nextbit’s CEO Tom Moss was quoted as saying that the device would be “friggin’ awesome”. He also noted that the device would be a premium one, but would be priced somewhat affordably too at around $300-$400.

In a market where flagship devices are priced $600 and upwards, $300-$400 would certainly allow the company to be competitive. In fact it would put them up against giants such as Xiaomi and Huawei, along with the upcoming OnePlus whose 2015 flagship the OnePlus 2 will be going on sale later today.

Does the company have what it takes to survive? We suppose come 1st of September we will find out.
