Survey: 20% Of Drivers Ignore The Tech Features Of Their Cars

vw-carplayOne of the ways carmakers are trying to sell you their cars these days is by equipping them with all kinds of tech gadgetry, like fancy infotainment systems, automated systems, and more. All of them sound good and are convenient, but exactly how many of you guys actually rely on them while you are driving?

As it turns out in a survey conducted by JD Powers (via N4BB), 20% of drivers apparently ignore the tech features that come bundled with their cars. Breaking this down further, concierge apps installed in cars are used the least at 43%. On board internet hub technology is ignored by about 38% of drivers, while features such as automatic parking are ignored by 35% of drivers.

Heck, despite promising to change the way we drive, 33% and 32% of drivers are found to have ignored systems such as Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto respectively. Dangerously enough, drivers seemed to be more comfortable relying on their phones for their entertainment, which is kind of what systems like Android Auto and CarPlay are meant to replace as a safer alternative.

When asked as to why they weren’t using the technology, the drivers surveyed claimed that they weren’t useful or they were just included and they weren’t really what they were interested in to begin with, but what say you? Are the tech features of a car what draws you in to begin with? Or are they just a nice added bonus?
