We have been hearing for a while now that Tag Heuer is working on an Android Wear-powered smartwatch, it’s actually the only major Swiss watchmaker that has jumped on the smartwatch bandwagon for now, and it hopes that this rather pricey piece of technology is enough to convince people that they need to spend $1,500 on a smartwatch when other Android Wear smartwatches in the market cost less than $400.

Obviously the biggest thing you get with this smartwatch is the Tag Heuer badge, the luxury watchmaker has been around for a long time and is respected by those who know their watches, but does that mean it’s just at good at making a smartwatch?

For starters the design isn’t that different From Tag Heuer’s Carrera watches, which cost a few thousand dollars at the very least, and the company says that it went to great lengths to make sure that its smartwatch did not look much like a conventional smartwatch.

It does boast premium materials, the Tag Heuer connected is fashioned out of titanium, measuring in at a chunky 46mm in diameter you can add your personal touch to the design by choosing from six different rubber straps. Underneath the sapphire crystal covered touchscreen is an Intel processor, Tag Heuer promises “all day” battery life and provides a charging dock to go along with the watch, it’s powered by Android Wear so there’s no shortage of features.

Tag Heuer has designed three watch faces for the Connected that are inspired by its analog dials, you can choose from a world time watch face, a normal 3-hand dial and a chronograph. The company has also developed some apps for the watch that serve as the alarm, clock and stopwatch. Since it runs Android Wear users have full access to all watch faces and apps available for the platform.

Tag Heuer Connected is the first luxury Android Wear smartwatch and the first to command a high price tag, it will be yours for $1,500, the question is whether or not it is worth that much. It’s available for purchase immediately from Tag Heuer online and through select luxury boutiques across the globe.
