Chevrolet Bolt Battery Specifications Confirmed

About a year ago Chevrolet showed off a new concept all-electric vehicle aimed for the masses, it was confirmed late last year that the car would enter production in the near future. At CES 2016 last week, the company unveiled the production version of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric car and today at the Detroit Auto Show it has revealed the car’s battery and electric motor specifications, details that many were looking forward to.

GM has revealed today that 2017 Chevrolet Bolt is going to have a 60 kWh battery, knowing this is very important if you may decide to purchase this vehicle since the battery pack in an electric car is as important as a fuel tank in a car with an internal combustion engine. You would want to know how far your car can travel on a full tank, or in the case of an electric car, on a full charge.

The company hasn’t exactly said precisely how much range this 60 kWh battery pack is going to provide, all it confirms is that the range is going to be more than 200 miles. For a full charge, it needs to be plugged in overnight with a standard 240-volt charger, which is also going to provide 50 miles of range if the car is plugged for just about two hours.

The Bolt features an electric motor that provides 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 mph figure of “less than seven seconds,” that’s how the company describes it, and it’s not being any more precise about these figures for now.

Before you start sizing it up against a Tesla Model S which not only provides more range but also greater speeds, this isn’t meant to take on that car, it’s going to be relatively affordable at about $30,000 and may very well give Tesla’s upcoming affordable electric sedan a run for its money.
