lg-ledtv-ces2015-b[CES 2016] It used to be back in the day that TV was TV, and that the only thing that changed was the size of the TV and the kind of panels it used. Nowadays there’s a lot more to TV than before, such as the types of panels, whether not it is a smart TV, what kind of platform it runs, what kind of resolution it features, and etc.

For example right now HDR seems to be the new thing but unfortunately not that much HDR content is available just yet. The good news is that LG wants to do something about it and has announced that they have entered in new partnerships with various content providers to help proliferate HDR content.

For starters how LG will do this is by supporting the format on all of its 2016 TVs. This means that if you pick up a new LG TV this year, you can rest assured it will play nicely with HDR content. They have also announced that they will be partnering up with popular video streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon, both of which are expected to offer HDR content on LG’s TVs for 2016.

Of course there is some debate as to whether the HDR format will be a widely-adopted one, but according to Brian Kwon, President and CEO at LG’s Home Entertainment Company, “We have always been dedicated to providing the latest technological benefits to consumers, and OLED represents the pinnacle of these efforts. By continuing to innovate, collaborating with other industry leaders and adopting the most promising cutting-edge technological advancements, LG will continue to lead in the global premium TV market.”
