sony_rx1r_iiIn October last year, Sony announced the successor to the Sony RX1R in the form of the RX1R II. For those unfamiliar, this is a compact camera by Sony, but it isn’t any old compact camera. This is a compact camera that packs a full frame sensor under its hood, which effectively makes it the first of its kind.

That being said, the released of the RX1R II was delayed but the good news is that Sony Japan has announced that it will begin shipping come 19th February, 2016. The camera will be available for pre-order via Amazon, Adorama, and B&H, depending on your preference of online retailers.

It is priced at a whopping $3,298 which is really, really expensive for a compact, but like we said this is a full frame compact so if you wanted a full frame camera that wasn’t a DSLR, this would be an option. Under the hood, it packs a 42.4MP Exmor R sensor, a 2.4 million dot XGA OLED viewfinder, along with a fixed 35mm f/2.0 ZEISS Sonnar T lens.

Alternatively if you wanted a full frame compact but pay less, the original Sony RX1 is still available via the likes of B&H where it is sold at a more affordable $1,695.
