gionee-w909When it comes to smartphones, there has been one main form factor that most, if not all, manufacturers adhere to – that is, the brick design that is easy to hold and nice to look at. Having said that, the clamshell format has more or less died with the dumb phone era, although clamshells used to be all the rage at one time. Gionee, the manufacturer behind long lasting devices, has announced that their upcoming clamshell device will be known as the Gionee W909.

Press invites for the unveiling of this particular device this coming 29th of March has already been sent out. As for the kind of hardware that we will be able to find underneath the hood, well, the Gionee W909 is said to come with MediaTek’s Helio P10 chipset, and techies might be able to better identify with it as the MT6755. This is a 64-bit SoC that boasts of a 2GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU and the Mali-T860 GPU, and will be accompanied by 4GB of RAM.

The handset will also come with a fingerprint sensor to keep up with the times, while the remaining alleged specifications point to dual HD resolution displays, 32GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Will it see action outside of China? We don’t really know yet
