Yesterday the Here Maps team confirmed that it’s dropping support for Windows Phone and Windows 10 in the very near future. It’s not going to develop new apps for these platforms from scratch. Even though the Windows Phone 8 apps will stick around no new features will be developed and the team will only provide fixes for crucial bugs. Following this announcement, Microsoft has promised that it’s going to release an “exciting update” for Windows 10 Maps soon.

A verified Microsoft employee who goes by Dave_MSFT has revealed on reddit that the company has an “exciting update” planned for Windows 10 maps. He also mentions some of the features that users can expect to find in the update.

Microsoft’s updated Windows 10 maps app is going to feature an improved driving mode, one particular feature that was lagging behind in Microsoft’s own app when compared to Here Maps. Microsoft is going to release this app to Windows 10 Insiders first before rolling out for everybody.

Dave_MSFT seems to be actively collecting feedback about the Windows 10 maps app on reddit so it seems that the company is taking feedback from its users very seriously as it tries to significantly improve its own maps app following the departure of what was arguably the best alternative available to Windows Phone and Windows 10 users.
