Sony today announced the launch of a new compact camera, the DSC-HX89, which brings a slew of advanced imaging capabilities such as 30x optical zoom, a high resolution 18.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor as well as a retractable OLED Tru-Finder all of which is packaged in a very compact body. Sony says that this is the only compact high-zoom camera with a retractable viewfinder.

The company boasts that this is the world’s smallest camera with 30x optical zoom. Sony’s latest compact camera also features a 921k dot LCD screen which is capable of tilting a full 180 degrees for easy selfies. The camera is compatible with Wi-Fi and NFC.

The specifications include a 30x ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* optical zoom lens with 60x digital zoom, optical SteadyShot with 5-axis image stabilization, built-in pop up flash, ability to record movies in full 1080p HD including the high speed XAVC S format at 50 Mbps.

If you’re interested in this latest compact high-zoom camera from Sony then you won’t have to wait for too long to get your hands on one. The company says that the HX80 camera will be available for purchase starting next month for about $350. It’s being billed as an appealing and flexible solution for travel and family photography and video recording.
