LG introduced the LG G5 with “Friends,” that’s what it calls modules for this modular smartphone, allowing users to get more out of one device. It showcased a few modules for the LG G5 when the handset was unveiled a couple of months ago and now it’s opening up the platform to third-party developers. That was the plan all along with the LG G5 and the company has officially confirmed it today.

At the fourth annual LG Developer Conference in San Francisco on April 15th, attendees will learn how they can create apps and hardware modules compatible with the LG G5, and for this purpose, the company has launched its software and hardware development kit. Attendees will also learn how to create their own camera control apps for the LG 360 CAM and the LG 360 VR viewer.

LG is also going to launch a new marketplace soon on www.LGFriends.com where developers will be able to see their modules for the G5. Developers will be able to use this online destination to sell their compatible products directly to customers.

Those who are interested in attending LG’s event can now register for it. Registration is now open on a first come, first serve basis. Those who do attend will receive a “sweet, picture-perfect surprise.”
