Sonos Has No Plans For A Windows 10 App

sonos speakersSome speakers come with remote controls, some rely on apps to do the controlling (in addition to having physical control buttons on the speakers themselves). Sonos is a company who has created apps for smartphones in the past to allow users to control their speakers via their mobile devices.

Unfortunately the Sonos Controller App is only available on iOS and Android and if you were hoping that the company would create one for Windows mobile devices, you might be disappointed to learn that will not be happening. The company states that they will continue to support the Windows desktop controller, but any hope for mobile support will not be coming anytime soon, if at all.

According to Sonos, “In the end, however, we’ve made a decision that Sonos is not going to build a Windows Phone 8 app nor are we planning to build a Windows 10 “universal” app.” The company adds, “We know this is super frustrating for Windows Phone owners anxious for more native apps on the platform, but like other companies we’ve had to place our bets. Our focus right now is on Voice and Paid Streaming Services, and we’re exploring quite a few innovative ways to experience and control your music – on your device and off.”

That being said if you do own a Sonos device and a Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile handset, there is a third-party app called Phonos that might be able to get the job done.
