battlenet_tagWhile in-game nicknames can be changed, Blizzard introduced BattleTags which basically gives you one name that you can use across Blizzard’s various games, like Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and etc. The idea is that by adding a person by their BattleTag, you’ll see them online and can chat with them regardless of the fact that you guys might be playing different games.

However as with all nicknames, we’re sure that some of us probably regret choosing the nicknames that we did. Maybe we thought we were being clever, romantic, or silly, but now whenever you are asked, you cringe a little when you have to give others your BattleTag name. The good news is that you can now change it, thanks to a recent announcement by Blizzard.

According to Blizzard, “As we prepare for the launch of Overwatch next week, we have refreshed the free BattleTag update for all Battle.net accounts! We often see feedback with requests to update your BattleTag, and as we move into a new universe filled with soldiers, scientists, adventurers and oddities it’s important that you have a nickname that represents you!”

To change your BattleTag, head to your Account Management Dashboard and click “Change” next to your BattleTag. There does not appear to be a time limit on when you can change it, so for now if you can’t decide what your new tag will be, don’t worry because you can always revisit it later.
