google daydreamNow here is something interesting for us to take into consideration – Google has just announced that Daydream VR, which was one of the numerous eye-catching announcements over at the recently concluded Google I/O, would not be compatible with majority of the flagship smartphones that are out there in the market.

While Google did show off the relevant hardware requirements and performance required for VR to be made viable on mobile devices, it seems that most of the high end handsets that are being sold in the market today might still stutter when coming up against Daydream VR – although the ZTE Axon 7 might beg to differ.

Clay Bayvor, Google’s head of VR, mentioned in a rather explicit manner that “there will most likely not be any ‘retroactively’ Daydream-ready phones”. In other words, you might want to hold your horses and wait for a few more months to make sure that whatever device that you are going to get would be ready for VR. Needless to say, developers will still need something to work with, which was why Google did put forward the Nexus 6P as a logical candidate, although it does not look as though it will be ready for the consumer-facing VR experience.
