HTC 10 Reportedly Off To Bad Start In Lucrative Chinese Market

If a new report is to be believed, HTC’s latest flagship isn’t winning over as many customers in one of the most lucrative smartphone markets on the planet as it might have hoped. Customers in China are apparently not willing to spend their money on the HTC 10 even though the company is selling a tweaked version just for the Chinese market at a lower price. It appears that pre-orders for the smartphone have barely crossed a few hundred units.

Focus Taiwan reports that there’s a lack of interest among Chinese customers for the HTC 10. Pre-order figures from two major online retailers in the country, Jindong Mall, and TMall, show that merely a couple of hundred units had been pre-ordered almost two weeks after pre-orders went live in the country.

HTC 10 is a bit cheaper in China than it is in other markets because HTC is not selling it with the Snapdragon 820 processor there. HTC 10 for China has a Snapdragon 652 processor which allows the company to sell it at a lower price but even that doesn’t appear to be working.

This surely doesn’t mean that the phone isn’t doing well in other markets. Sales in Taiwan, HTC’s home country, have been better than expected while major carriers in the United States are selling it as well. HTC is also selling unlocked units directly to customers in the United States.

Still, it looks like customers in China would rather spend their money elsewhere.
