game-thrones-season-6-tyrionSo the sixth season of Game of Thrones has ended, with an epic ending that many did not think would be able to surpass the 9th episode, but it did. This also means that there are many who can’t wait to see what the subsequent seasons will bring, and how the story will conclude even though it is no longer officially following the books.

Now last we heard which was a couple of months ago, it was suggested that we had maybe 10-15 episodes left which is significantly shorter as each season runs for 10 episodes. The good news is that we will have more than 10, the bad news is that it will be less than 15 as the Game of Thrones showrunners told Deadline that we’re probably looking at another 13 episodes.

According to David Benioff, “From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now.” He adds, “The thing that has excited us from the beginning, back to the way we pitched it to HBO is, it’s not supposed to be an ongoing show, where every season it’s trying to figure out new story lines. We wanted it to be one giant story, without padding it out to add an extra 10 hours, or because people are still watching it.”

While we have to say we’re a bit bummed that the show is coming to an end, we are also reminded about shows that were good at the start but overstayed their welcome, leading to subsequent seasons that somehow lost its magic. We suppose all good things will have to come to an end eventually.
