Game developers have been milking their titles for all they’re worth by releasing new content via paid DLCs. Some would argue that it’s a bit unfair to ask people to pay for more content when they’ve already paid as much as $60 for a game, while others would contest that the additional content warrants extra payment. Titanfall developer Respawn is doing things differently this year, it has confirmed that Titanfall 2 DLC will be released for free.

It was confirmed only last week that all post-launch maps and game modes for Titanfall 2 will be released as free DLCs, meaning that the content will be released for all users who have purchased the game and they won’t have to pay extra for it.

Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella said that this decision has been made because the developer does not want to split the community, and to ensure that players are happy with their game.

Nevertheless, developing DLC is going to cost Respawn and it hasn’t figured out how to cover that cost year. That’s one of the reasons why they haven’t talked much about free Titanfall 2 DLC yet.

Producer Drew McCoy believes that if the developer continues to offer content after launch for free it’s going to create trust between the players and the studio and that it would get people investing in the game as a whole. “They’re going to trust us not screw them over and they can be happy with their $60 versions”.

Titanfall 2 will be released on October 28th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
