Popular fast food chain Wendy’s has revealed more information about the security breach it confirmed earlier this year. Back in February, Wendy’s said that it was investigating a potential security breach and it confirmed by May this year that malware had been found on its point-of-sale systems which was used to steal credit card information. In its latest update on the matter, the franchise reveals that more than 1,000 Wendy’s locations have been hit by this credit card breach.

Initially, the franchise had said that credit and debit card numbers, cardholder verification value, expiration date, and service codes had been stolen from more than 300 locations across the United States. A second attack compounded the problem and Wendy’s has now confirmed that more than 1,000 locations across the country have been affected.

It’s said that the breach is likely to have occurred due to franchisees remote access credentials being compromised which allowed the attackers to install the malware on the system. Wendy’s says that the malware has been removed from point-of-sale systems. The investigation still continues.

Wendy’s has provided a list of all locations that have been affected by this credit card breach. Those who made a purchase at any of these locations can get a year’s worth of free fraud protection and identity restoration from Wendy’s for free.
