pokemon goPokemon GO is still not widely available yet. Last we checked, it is officially available in Australia, New Zealand, and the US. It was planned for an international release but it was halted due to server issues, which means that for now, we have some enterprising players who have found a way to download the app and to spoof their location.

Unfortunately if you were considering doing that, you might want to think again. Niantic has put certain measures into place to ensure that gamers do not spoof their location. We have heard that it is possible that players could get banned for doing so, but there are also reports of other consequences.

A post on Reddit has revealed that players who spoof their location are unable to capture Pokemon. It reads, “You can’t get items from Pokestops. 2. You can’t catch Pokemon. Any Pokemon, irrespective of its CP, will run away after you throw a Pokeball. 3. You can’t battle or claim a Gym.”

Basically it sounds like while you could trick the game into thinking you’re somewhere else, that’s pretty much the extent of it. In any case there have been rumors that the app will begin rolling out again soon so just be patient and you’ll be able to play it with the rest of the world soon!
