android_nougatAs you might have heard by now, Google has officially released Android 7.0 Nougat to the masses, or at least the masses of Nexus owners. However it seems that Google is not stopping there, nor are they planning on slowing down. In a post on the Android Developers blog, Google announced that the next major update to Android 7.0 is already in the works.

In fact it seems that developers already expect to check out a preview of the update come this fall. According to Google, “We’re moving Nougat into a new regular maintenance schedule over the coming quarters. In fact, we’ve already started work on the first Nougat maintenance release, that will bring continued refinements and polish, and we’re planning to bring that to you this fall as a developer preview. Stay tuned!”

While this is just speculation on our part, it does seem rather coincidental timing of the next major update and also the launch of the Nexus devices, which last we heard was set for a launch in October. However we have also heard the rumors that Google could have their own Google-branded handsets that might debut next month, so we’re not sure if they are one and the same or if they are different.

Either way we guess we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information, but in the meantime if you own the newer Nexus handsets, with the Nexus 6 being the oldest (sorry Nexus 5 owners!), do check out the update when you can!
