There are quite a lot of factors that many customers consider before they purchase a new smartphone. Many Android customers prefer Nexus devices because Google always releases updates for these devices first. Others look to whether or not the OEM is promising support for the device for at least two years. Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand, recently launched a new handset in the U.S. and it promises to deliver at least two years of software updates for the Honor 8.

Taylor Wimberly, the handset’s product manager, has said that the Honor 8 is going to be supported for software a full 24 months after its launch. That’s apparently going to be the case with all Honor handsets that come after the Honor 8 as well.

“From this year we are making a commitment to provide customers with access to new features (at least once every three months during the first 12 months) for up to 24 months following each product launch. We will keep providing access to security and software updates to fix bugs and enhance user experience in a timely manner,” Wimberly said.

The pace at which OEMs send out updates is often the subject of debate as well. That’s one of the reasons why Android is so fragmented as it is, and if Honor can commit to sending out new updates quickly, it’s certainly going to see interest from quite a lot of potential customers.
