Google may have released Android 7.0 Nougat several months ago for Pixel and Nexus devices but there are quite a lot of OEM devices that have yet to receive said update. Huawei, which owns the Honor sub-brand, is yet to confirm when the Honor 8 is going to officially receive Nougat. However, a new report suggests that the Honor 8 Nougat update release might take place earlier than expected.

It appears that the company’s Japanese arm has sent out a press release confirming that the Honor 8 Nougat release is going to take place starting tomorrow, January 16th.

The press release mentions that the Nougat update for the Honor 8 is going to include the new EMUI 5.0 user interface upgrade. It brings several new features to the UI. The press release also reveals that the Nougat update for this device weighs in at 1.97GB.

It merits mentioning here that Huawei recently said that it was possible for the Honor 8 to receive the Nougat update at some point in February. It didn’t commit to a firm timeframe and hasn’t confirmed anything yet at this point in time.

It’s likely that Huawei Japan has jumped the gun on this matter and reveal when Nougat will be out for the Honor 8, at least in Japan if not the rest of the world, though it’s unlikely that the company would hold off on the update for so long after releasing it in the Land of the Rising Sun possibly tomorrow.
