oneplus_3_002Back in September, OnePlus revealed that they were “actively working” on bringing Android 7.0 Nougat to the OnePlus 3. For those wondering what this means and when we might see it being released, the good news is that you won’t have to wait much longer because the update is expected to be released by the end of 2016.

This is according to a report by Engadget who got confirmation about the update’s availability from OnePlus’ head of software, Brian Yoon. According to Yoon, the company is aiming to push out the Nougat update OTA by the end of the year once they have managed to iron all the kinks out in the software.

What’s even better is that for OnePlus 3 users who can’t wait that long, a Nougat beta “community” build is expected to be available for the handset this month itself. Note that this is a beta which means that it isn’t 100% ready yet, hence the kinks that have to be ironed out ahead of the final release.

As for older OnePlus handsets like the OnePlus 2, Yoon did confirm that they will update the phone to Nougat, but unfortunately there is no timeline for that just yet. We can only imagine that the company might be more interested in pushing out the update for their current flagship first before focusing on older devices. In the meantime OnePlus will be unveiling a new device come 15th of November in the form of the OnePlus 3T, a phone that is rumored to come with Android 7.0 Nougat already installed.
