The Martian VR Experience Lands On HTC Vive And PSVR Tomorrow


The Martian was one of the best movies released in 2015. This Ridley Scott-directed thriller is based on a book and it captivated millions of people across the globe with the story of an astronaut that gets left behind on Mars as his crew evacuates following a nasty storm. If you’d like to put yourself into the virtual shoes of protagonist Mark Watney, better run out and get the HTC Vive or PlayStation VR headset if you don’t already own one.

The Martian VR Experience is going to be released for HTC Vive and PlayStation VR tomorrow. It’s executive produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Robert Stromberg of Maleficent fame.

It’s an interactive virtual reality experience that enables viewers to get into the shoes of Watney in select scenes from the film such as the one in which he’s driving a Mars rover and the other in which he’s flying in zero gravity.

An early version of this experience was showcased back at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016 as well as the Sundance Film Festival. It has now been widely released for anyone who has one of the aforementioned headsets. It’s priced at $19.99 which is about the same as what other VR experiences cost.
