the-last-of-us-2In Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, players were put into the role of Joel who was the main character of the series. Players controlled him for most of the game, save for a few instances in which Ellie is made playable to the player. However that is expected to change in The Last of Us Part 2.

The game and its trailer were revealed over the weekend during Sony’s PlayStation event. According to Naughty Dog, it seems that in the second game, Ellie will now be the main playable character. The character has also grown up and in the sequel, she’ll be 19 and the storyline takes place a few years following the event of the original game.

Exactly where we are at this point in the game is unclear, but as Naughty Dog pointed out in the release of the trailer, development is still in the early stages which means that a release date and additional details will probably be shared at a later date. According to Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us Part 2 has been named such because it is a “complementary story to the first game”, and that when looked at side-by-side, the two games will tell “a much larger story.”

In any case there has been a lot of excitement for the sequel following the release of its trailer, and we’ll be definitely keeping an eye out for more details as they emerge.
