OnePlus came out with the OnePlus 3 earlier this year. It remained the company’s flagship smartphone for about eight months before OnePlus decided to launch an upgraded variant that it’s calling the OnePlus 3T. There are some questions about how the company’s smartphone lineup is going to progress from this and rumor has it that it’s going to skip the OnePlus 4 release in favor of the OnePlus 5 which is claimed to tout a ceramic body. Superstition may also play a part in this.

The number 4 is generally considered to be unlucky in China and we’ve seen companies like Vivo skip the number 4 for their handsets as well. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why the OnePlus 4 release might be skipped in favor of the OnePlus 5.

Rumor has it that OnePlus is going to launch the OnePlus 5 in the first half of 2017. It’s also claimed that the handset is going to have a ceramic body. Apparently, it’s going to source the ceramic material from the same company that supplied it to Xiaomi for the Mi Mix.

There’s no word on the specifications at this point in time but considering that the handset is due until next year, it’s quite likely that the OnePlus 5 is going to run Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box.

None of this has been officially confirmed by the company as yet so take it with a grain of salt.
