gita-cargo-robotWalking and carrying several bags of groceries can be a bit of a chore, but sometimes this is necessary if you don’t have car, or you’re trying to save on gas, or you forgot your bus pass, and so on. However in the future that may no longer be necessary as Vespa’s owner, Piaggio Group, has unveiled a new robot called Gita.

Gita will actually be made by a newly formed company by Piaggio called Piaggio Fast Forward, which is a company focused on robots. Its first product is Gita which is a personal cargo robot and as you can see in the photo above, the idea is simple: Gita will be able to carry to belongings for you, thus freeing up your hands in the process.

The best part is that Gita is autonomous meaning that it can follow directions based on a map, or alternatively it can follow after you with a top speed of 22 mph. It also boasts a zero turning radius that will make it a cinch to navigate those turns and corners while it is moving, and has a maximum load of 40 pounds.

Gita is expected to make its debut in business-to-business test programs but Piaggio expects to eventually release a version that is more consumer-friendly. No word on pricing yet but the company is expected to make a grander announcement on the 2nd of February.
