Facebook Messenger AI Can Now Save Links For Later

While Google might have announced Allo with a built-in AI assistant in the form of Google Assistant last year, Facebook actually had a similar idea before them. This was in the form of the Messenger AI dubbed “M” that was originally announced in 2015, and it looks like the AI has recently gained a new feature in the form of saving links.

Given that we aren’t free all the time to check out links that our friends and family members send to us, what M does is that it is smart enough to detect when a link has been sent. From there, as you can see in the screenshot above, it will then offer users the opportunity to save the link for later.

This means that M will remember those links on your behalf so that you can check it out when you have more free time, as opposed to letting the conversation continue and you eventually forgetting about it. In addition the AI assistant will now also be able to remind users that the person they’re chatting with is having their birthday so that you can send your greetings.

It will also be smart enough to pick up on conversation phrases like “call me” and give users the option of making a video or voice call. As it stands the M assistant is only available to those living in the US, but there are plans to eventually roll it out on a grander scale.
