As expected during E3 2017, there were plenty of games that were revealed during the event, but if there was one title that was conspicuously missing, it was Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2. The game was officially announced towards the end of 2016, which meant that E3 would have been a perfect venue for the developers to share some updates and show what they’ve got so far.

Obviously that did not happen, and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has since tweeted out an explanation. According to Druckmann’s tweet, basically it sounds like maybe the studio wasn’t quite ready to show what they’ve got. His tweet reads, “Believe me, we’re super excited to show you more of Ellie and Joel’s 2nd journey, but right now it’s Chloe and Nadine’s time to shine.”

It is possible that maybe the game is still in the early stages of development to the point where they might not have anything new beyond what we’ve seen so far. However not all is lost because there are still events like Gamescom and the PlayStation Experience event where Naughty Dog could unveil the goodies.

There is still no release date set for The Last of Us 2, although it does feel like maybe it might be skipping 2017. Details are also scarce, but the initial launch trailer did reveal that the game would be focusing pretty heavily on Ellie, with some speculating that maybe Joel could be dead and that she is talking to a ghost/memory, either way we’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out.
