Google Furthers Health Efforts By Acquiring Health Monitoring Startup

Just like how Apple has HealthKit, Google has Google Fit which is on Android devices where users can use the platform to record down their biometrics tracked by various fitness bands, smartwatches, and apps. We also know that Google is interested in medical tech, and it looks like the company’s health efforts are currently being furthered.

In a report from GeekWire, it seems that Google might have recently acquired a health monitoring startup called Senosis Health. Google has yet to confirm the acquisition, but GeekWire has confirmed that this is the case with sources familiar with the matter. Interestingly enough this startup was by Shwetak Patel, who has in the past sold his previous startups to the likes of Belkin and Sears.

So what’s Senosis Health? From what we know about the company, basically they are trying to take smartphones and turn them into health monitoring devices that can monitor and diagnose pulmonary function, hemoglobin counts, and so on, and will be taking advantage of things like the enhanced cameras, accelerometers, and microphones of our smartphones to monitor our vitals.

Assuming the report is true, it is unclear as to what Google has planned for Senosis Health. However like we said the company has expressed their interest in the medical field before, not to mention they also have Android and Android Wear which could be potential platforms for the technology, so maybe we’ll see something materialize in the future.
