LG V30 Will Sport An OLED FullVision Display

A rumor from a few months ago suggested that future LG smartphones could sport OLED technology. So far LG has been using LCDs for their phones, and just like Apple, they were said to make the jump to OLED. It turns out the rumors were right as LG has basically confirmed that the LG V30 will be their first smartphone with an OLED FullVision display.

This is actually not the first LG smartphone to feature the technology as LG points out that the LG G Flex 2 was actually the first. However according to LG, “the shift marks a move by LG to extend its OLED leadership from the premium TV sector into the premium smartphone space.” LG does not explicitly mention the LG V30 in its press release, but given that the LG V30 is expected to be the company’s next flagship smartphone, it’s not that hard to put two and two together.

We have to wonder if the shift to OLED could also be the reason why LG is ditching the secondary display that made the LG V-series so unique. Instead we are hearing that LG will turn to the use of software and a “floating bar” to replicate the effect on the phone, but whether or not it will offer the same experience remains to be seen.

That being said, LG has confirmed that the LG V30 will be officially announced on the 31st of August, 2017 during the company’s IFA 2017 media event, so do check back with us later this month for the details.
