A popular rumor that seems to be persisting has suggested that the iPhone 8 could sport an OLED display, and a recent report has revealed that Apple could be encouraging LG to ramp up OLED production so that they can supply to Apple the panels they need. Now in a report from ET News, it has been suggested that LG could be considering the move.

The move won’t be just for Apple’s sake, but it could also be for their own purposes as LG Display could end up supplying these panels to LG Electronics for use in future smartphones, as potentially Xiaomi as well. The report claims that LG will begin supplying curved OLED displays for smartphones during the first half of the year, and that these displays could be used for LG’s upcoming LG V30 which is rumored for launch later this year.

LG isn’t a stranger when it comes to OLED displays as it has used the technology with its smartwatch. The company reportedly produces about 22,000 units a month but with this deal, they are expected to increase that amount to 37,000. We’re not sure if these will be enough for LG’s own purposes, Xiaomi, and possibly even Apple, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see. Until then take it with a grain of salt for now.
