Back in the day when the internet was still relatively young, simply having an email or a web presence was enough. Of course over the years having a website has become key and crucial and it’s rare that you encounter a company that does not have a website, which also means that requirements have changed.

Now it is no longer enough to have a website, but your website must be functional and user-friendly, which is why design matters. Google certainly knows that and wants to lend a hand with the launch of the Chrome User Experience Report. This is a public dataset containing key user experience metrics taken from Google’s Chrome browser from users who have opted in for statistic reporting.

Basically what this means is that web developers will be able to see and analyze the various experiences that users have had when browsing websites using Chrome. It will also help developers identify what they have done well or if there are any areas for improvement. It seems that it will also be capable of identify trends so that developers can stay abreast as opposed to playing catchup.

According to Google, “The initial release includes data from a sample of ten thousand origins and focuses on loading metrics, though we hope to expand coverage in future iterations.” If you’re a web developer looking to improve on their website, then head on over to the Chrome User Experience Report website for the details.
