New HTC VR Headset Called Vive Eclipse Could Be Launched Soon

HTC recently sold much of its smartphone business to Google but it has kept the virtual reality division that seems to have been quite busy. Parting with a chunk of the smartphone business has freed up time, resources, and also injected cash into the company that it can route to the VR division. Will we see more impressive products out of it soon? That’s likely and the HTC Vive Eclipse headset might be one of those products.

A trademark application that HTC recently filed down in New Zealand has been spotted. It’s an application for a trademark on the moniker Vive Eclipse. HTC’s first proper VR headset is called HTC Vive so it would make sense for the successor to have a variation of that name.

Among other things, the application describes that this trademark is for a “head-mounted display for computer simulated reality.” Whether or not this is the successor to the company’s well-received Vive headset remains to be seen.

HTC hasn’t said anything about this product so far and hasn’t hinted that a new full-fledged VR headset is on the horizon. Normally, such trademark applications are taken as an indication of an impending release so if you’re looking forward to one, keep your fingers crossed for the HTC Vive Eclipse.
