Google recently unveiled the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The company is offering unlimited Google Photos storage for original-quality images and video to those who purchase these handsets. However, there’s a caveat. The free storage will only be valid until 2020. That wasn’t the case with the original Pixel handsets and Google has reiterated that there’s no change in status for those handsets.

Google offered unlimited storage for photos and videos with the original Pixel and Pixel XL. It promised that customers will have unlimited storage for photos and videos in their original quality for life.

Pixel fans weren’t really excited to find out that the company has placed an expiry date on similar content that’s uploaded to Google Photos via the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Some were also concerned that Google would enforce this expire date for the original Pixel handsets as well.

That’s not the case, though. Google has confirmed that the original Pixel and Pixel XL handset owners will continue to receive free original-quality storage for photos and videos for life.

It’s great that Google is holding up its end of the bargain. After all, it did promise unlimited storage for life to customers who purchased the 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL handsets.
