New Entry-Level GoPro Camera Coming Next Year

GoPro has confirmed that it’s going to replace the original Hero Session with a new entry-level action camera next year. The existing entry-level action camera was announced two years ago and it’s now reaching the end of the road. GoPro is going to come out with a new entry-level camera in 2018.

The last two years have been quite difficult for GoPro. The company laid off many employees and shelved some products. It worked very hard to return to profitability and the efforts have paid off. GoPro reported its earnings for the third quarter of 2017 yesterday and confirmed that it was the company’s first profitable quarter in two years.

The company posted $330 in revenue for Q3 2017 and brought in $14 million in profit. GoPro still has to face challenges, it’s not out of the woods just yet. The company profits fourth quarter revenue of $470 million which is going to be its worst for the holiday quarter in two years.

On the hardware front, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman revealed that demand for the company’s entry-level Session was higher than anticipated in 2017. This will result in “sooner than expected end of life for this product.” He added that this presents GoPro with an opportunity to expand its market with a new entry-level product that will be released in 2018.

He didn’t go into the details about the features and specifications of the new action camera but we’re likely going to hear more information about it through the grapevine in the months to come.
