Vizio SmartCast TVs Get Support For Alexa Voice Controls

The list of devices that you can control by giving voice commands to Amazon’s Alexa assistant keeps on growing. Vizio has announced today that it has introduced the Vizio SmartCast skill for Alexa which will allow owners of its 2017 and 2016 SmartCast P, M, and E Series 4K TVs to control their units with voice commands. Those who own a supported TV can now use an Alexa-enabled device to control volume, channel, and input settings as well as turn the TV on and off using only their voice.

The VIZIO SmartCast skill for Alexa is now available for Alexa-enabled devices as well as Amazon’s own range of Echo products which include the Amazon Echo, Echo Show, Echo Dot, and the Amazon Tap.

With just voice commands, users can rely on this Alexa skill to incrementally adjust volume, change the input of a playback device, control playback functions such as pause, rewind and fast forward as well as switch the TV on and off. This provides users with the ability to control their Vizio SmartCast TVs completely hands-free.

The addition of this skill doesn’t change the fact that customers with Vizio SmartCast TVs can also browse and launch content using their TV’s remote. The company has said that it’s going to roll out support for Alexa voice commands to its 2018 SmartCast full HD and HD models in a few weeks.
