Xiaomi is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturers and yet the company’s handsets haven’t officially been launched in the United States. The company has reiterated time and again that it’s going to launch its smartphones in the United States and a new report suggests that this could happen either by the end of this year or early 2019.

Xiaomi recently expanded into western Europe and thus speculation began that it may not be long before the company brought its smartphones to U.S. shores. A new report by The Wall Street Journal claims that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer could launch its devices in the United States as early as this year.

“We’ve always been considering entering the US. market,” said Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun, adding that “We plan to start entering the market by end 2018, or by early 2019.”

It’s not like Xiaomi has never sold a single product in the United States before. It already sells accessories and even devices like its Android TV set-top box but smartphones haven’t been officially sold as yet.

It remains to be seen, though, if Xiaomi gets any support from U.S. carriers for its smartphones as that will be crucial in making or breaking its American dream. Huawei hasn’t had much luck with that so it will be interesting to see how receptive the country’s carriers are of Xiaomi.
