Sony confirmed not too long ago that it’s going to sell its open style earbuds in the United States. What was initially a concept was later launched by the company as the Sony Xperia Ear Duo. These earbuds are a bit different from your average wireless earbuds in that they try to seamlessly blend your music with the outside world.

For example, you could be listening to music while working out at the gym and still be able to hear what’s going on around you. However, this will defeat the purpose for many users who buy headphones precisely for shutting out external sounds so that they can focus on what they’re doing, whether it be a workout or a coding session.

The Sony Xperia Ear Duo earbuds are compatible with both Android and iOS as well as their respective voice assistants. They’re capable of automatically adjusting the volume depending on the ambient noise level. They also support head gestures for skipping tracks and answering calls.

Sony has already started taking pre-orders for the Xperia Ear Duo on Amazon. They’re available in black and gold hues with a price tag of $280. Sony is going to release this device in the United States on May 25th.
