Some of you might remember that Vivo showcased an impressive concept smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in February this year called the Apex. It had a notch-free bezel-less display in the true sense of the word with a screen-to-body-ratio of more than 90 percent. Since the device didn’t have a notch where the front camera could be placed, Vivo opted for a motorized solution which makes the selfie camera pop out from the top bezel. That concept is now reality in the form of its new smartphone, the Vivo Nex.

Vivo says that the Nex “fulfills the bezel-less dream,” and those who were disappointed by Lenovo’s latest device will certainly agree with the company. The device features a 6.59 inch 1080p+ OLED display that doesn’t have a notch, thus enabling the device to tout an impressive screen-to-body-ratio of 91.24 percent despite the fact that it still has a slim chin at the bottom.

You might be wondering where did the earpiece go if there’s no notch. Vivo is relying on its “screen soundcasting technology” to replace the earpiece speaker and deliver sound through its glass-vibrating technology. Pretty neat stuff.

The fingerprint sensor is embedded within the display itself and Vivo fans won’t be too surprised about this since the company already has a smartphone on the market with a display-based fingerprint sensor. However, Vivo does mention that this device has the third-generation sensor which is faster than the previous one.

The 8 megapixel front camera pops out of the top bezel on demand. It’s unlike any other smartphone on the market today and shows that Vivo has really thought outside the box in achieving its full-screen look for the device.

Other specs include the Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB of RAM, 256GB storage, and a 4,000mAh battery. There’s going to be a cheaper version of the handset with a Snapdragon 710 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB of storage as well. It features a 12 MP + 5 MP dual camera system at the back too.

The Snapdragon 845 model of the Vivo Nex has been priced at 4,498 yuan or roughly $700 and it’s only going to be available in China.
