Apple GiveBack is what the company now calls its rebranded reuse and recycling trade-in program. It has updated that program to offer customers trading-in old devices with instant credit which they can immediately use to offset the cost of a new product that they’re purchasing online. It’s a departure from the earlier practice which had customers shipping their device first.

The only way that customers could immediately get credit to use for a new purchase under this program previously was to visit an Apple Store location. Customers who opted for online trade-ins were required to ship their device to Apple first after which they would be given an Apple gift card or debit card with the trade-in value.

Apple’s website has been updated to reflect the change. Customers can now get an instant credit for trading in an old device and will be able to use that credit immediately to purchase a new device online. The trade-in value can be put towards the purchase of a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch.

The newest devices Apple is currently accepting for GiveBack include the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It may soon start offering trade-in values for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X as well.
